Welcome to Lake Mongenet

The owners of Chantebouef & Meunier introduced a brand new lake to their Pursuit Fishing portfolio in 2019

Lake Mongenet is situated 450 metres away from Chanteboeuf further along our private drive. Mongenet is a stunning intimate lake of 3.5 acres nestling in the beautiful Limousin countryside with a lovely house opening onto gently sloping lawns down to the lakeside from the roofed terrace. Along with detached lodge and private gated pristine secluded garden, swimming pool & grounds.

The fabulous double bedroomed house and separate double bed lodge provides comfortable 3 double bed accommodation, two bathrooms and an additional en-suite, a fully fitted kitchen and dining room overlooking the lake and the large sitting room with two French doors also opening up onto the lake.

The lake was already stocked with over 100 Carp and the owners netted it, retaining the best of the stock and then adding another 100+ new carp from upper twenties to a current top weight of 46lb

Initially, this will be a runs water offering guests plenty of action with twenties galore, a few 30’s and always a chance of a decent 40. Guests are currently reporting 15-30 fish per session and as you can see in Alan Blair’s new Nash, film the fishing can be non stop action. Luckily there is the perfect house, verandah and gardens to chill out in when you need a rest.

Mongenet has a few weeks available from this July and is ideal for a family group and two anglers.

New stock Mongenet is our newest venue at Pursuit Angling to sit alongside Lakes Chanteboeuf & Meunier. Earlier this year we removed any of the old fish we felt were stunted or not in great condition and introduced a 100 new fish ranging from mid-doubles up to a top weight of 42Lbs. These are lovely fish and the same strain as many of the Chanteboeuf Carp and we know what monsters they have turned out to be.We will be bringing Mongenet on as another big fish exclusive venue with luxury accommodation, pool and stunning grounds (Please see images of house and ground in other reports and blogs). In the first year or two though Mongenet is going to offer those first lucky anglers to fish it a bit more of a......

Rex Goddard & son Bobby Good friend and regular angler at Meunier and Chantebeouf Rex Goddard has just had a week on Mongenet combining a bit of filming with a bit of fishing and to spend some time with youngest son Bobby. This was the first time the lake has been fished since the stocking took place and the carp were very active. Only fishing a couple of hours in the morning and then with the rods out before supper they landed an impressive 41 carp ranging from low doubles up to 29lb with the average fish taking the scales around to 24lb.Rex says ‘the daytimes were mostly very hot so we enjoyed a few day trips out to the likes Oradour Sur Glane, Lac St Pardoux and some great fun......

Some new pictures of the Lake & GroundsOwner Lester has just returned from a week doing a few bits and pieces with venue manager Christophe and just wanted to share a few new pics of the place. Set in the middle of the Limousin countryside the venue is surrounded by forest, farms and countryside without anything to disturb your peace and quiet. Now that the new fish are safely settled in, we have great plans for next year and our first guests will be able to enjoy the brand new swimming pool, new angling pontoon and swim, along with the lovely house and lodge situated on a sloping lawn overlooking your own private lake...

New stock being introduced in March 2019 (over a hundred fish 19-42lb)

The Lake

Mongenet has always been a private home and never fished other than by the previous owners. It had a lot of small carp in it with a few of a better stamp. We specially selected some lovely 20lb+ up to some mid-forty pound fish, all with the pedigree of having big growth rates and they are stunning looking Carp.

The intention to bring Mongenet on as another big fish water with the best standards of accommodation and beautiful settings and over the last year have opened the lake and house for a limited number of dates to a few guests only.

Mongenet is the perfect lake if you aren’t after the really big lumps and want to see a regular bend in the rods in a relaxed setting. Certainly in the first year or two the lake promises to provide plenty of action whilst these carp pack on the pounds as they have on our other Pursuit waters.

Chanteboeuf (see the new Alan Blair / Nash film) is our stunning ‘best small carp lake in France’ 3.5 acre lake and fanrastic lakeside house with an incredible stick of fish that average 50-53lbs with a lake best at 84.8lb Meunier our ‘English estate lake in France’ 6.5 acre lake with own exclusive house overlooking the bay. Meunier has an average fish size of mid to high 40’s with a top weight at 69lb.

We fully expect Mongenet to mature in the same way. It benefits from the incredibly fertile water source and rich environment and our fish are of an incredible pedigree. And on top of the unbelievable fishing available, our properties are of a much higher standard than on offer at nearly every other fishery in France.

The Fish

Mongenet has a very big new stock of pristine carp ranging from mid twenties up to a current lake best at 47lb

Alan Blair at Mongenet!

Here are some great snaps from Alan’s trip to Mongenet!  You can watch the film of his travels at the top of this website.

The House

The fabulous double bedroomed house and separate double bed lodge provides 3 double bed accommodation with two bathrooms and an en-suite on the main house double bedroom* The main house has a fully fitted kitchen and dining room overlooking the lake and the sitting room with two French doors also opens up onto the lake. Across the front of the house is a roofed veranda with swimming pool, dining tables, seating and bbq area for enjoying those sunny mornings and balmy evenings with a glass or two watching the carp jumping out of the lake.

This lovely property was built by the previous owner to a very high standard inside and out. The property boasts a private gated drive, lovely lawns, copses and of course the treelined lake with a path all the way around it. The main house and lodge have been built to a very high specification and with a lake brimming with carp just metres away, it offers the perfect family angling holiday home.

*A second double bedroom is being added to the main house this year

Mongenet offers fantastic specimen angling for never before fished for Carp with private luxury accommodation and grounds in a beautiful setting. It is perfect for the family angler or a couple of mates (2 anglers with 2 rods each only) wanting the the mod cons. And an ideal venue if you want a regular bend in the rod.

The Vacation

We had been looking for another venue that carp anglers could bring their partners, family or non angling friends to without a compromise to the quality of fishing or the holiday experience for all. By chance our neighbour to Chanteboeuf was looking to sell his gorgeous lakeside property set in its own wooded and lawned grounds. This has given us two properties half a mile apart joined by our own private track so creating a totally private angling haven. Both with swimming pools and offering the highest standards of carp fishing holiday venues in France.

Whilst they are two separate exclusive venues joined by a private track, the two properties have already been booked by bigger groups who are looking to combine a family holiday, anniversary or birthday and giving the lucky anglers in the group the best of both worlds.

There are lots of safe places to roam and explore with lots of wildlife to see. You will often see deer walking around and we have our own resident owls, kingfishers and woodpeckers. Inside our fully furnished house there is a fully fitted kitchen and bathrooms, There is a dishwasher, washing machine and spin dryer, flat screen TVs both with Sky TV Once out of the gates, if you can pull yourselves away, there are some really lovely historic towns, chateau’s, parks, forests and meandering rivers.

There are lots of places to eat and drink in the nearby historic towns of St Junien and Rochechouart. St Junien sits on the river Vienne and is notable for being on the famous crusading route of Richard the Lionheart. Rochechouart is a beautiful town with a stunning chateau, lovely walks and great restaurants. The whole area is a designated place of outstanding beauty and nature reserve. You are also only 90 minutes from the coast of La Rochelle if you fancied a seaside jaunt.

Oradour sur Glane is something not to be missed and I haven’t met anyone who hasn’t been incredibly moved by the experience of walking around this tragic village monument left as it was on 10th June 1944 when most of its inhabitants were massacred by the Nazis. Again see things to do link. There are two fabulous artificial lakes a short drive away that offer wonderful facilities such as beaches, swimming, water sports, picnics and camping.

Lac de Vassiviere is one of Frances largest lakes and famous in France for its watersports. Dominated by its own Chateau that is situated on an island in the centre of the lake, Vassiviere has 45 kilometres of coastline and offers loads to do for the family. Lac de saint Pardoux at 300 hectares is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the region offering; abseiling, watersports, mountain biking, acrobatic tree and adventure parks, parcours, tennis and numerous beaches. Both Pardoux and Vassiviere are stunning locations with loads to do if you want to try and drag the angler in your group away from the rods for a few hours.

Things to do nearby

Set in the national park region, the town of St. Junien is just 8 minutes drive away. It is the second largest town in the Haute Vienne. It is also the capital of luxury leather glove manufacturing. There is a nearby golf resort which incorporates a gourmet restaurant.

There is also great hiking and mountain bike trails in the area and a train station with a direct link to Paris. Limoges is the nearest city where the famous Limoges porcelain comes from. It is about 30km away and has many places of history, art and museums to visit. Limoges also has its own airport with daily flights throughout most of the year to England.

Rochechouart is Limousin’s picture-perfect town to visit with a large chateau, shops and resturants, 15 mins drive away. A 20 minute drive takes you to the incredibly moving memorial and museum at Oradour sur Glane. The town is a tribute to the 642 inhabitants who were massacerd by the SS on the 10th June 1944. It has been left exactly as it was on that day and is an incredibly powerful place to visit.

Limoges is your nearest large town and where you will have flown into if you have chosen to fly here. Very much worth a visit and famous for its porcelain.

Lac de Saint-Paradoux, 25 kilometres north of Limoges is one of the most visited destinations in the Limousin. At over 750 acres it offers a wide range of family activities and facilities at the various beaches and places around this inland sea that offers a host of water sports, adventure parks, tree top climbs and places to see and eat.

You are surrounded by historic towns and Chateaus and we sit on the route of Richard the Lionhearts famous battle pilgrimage. Slightly farther afield is the historic and picturesque town of Poitiers, site of two major historical battles and well worth a visit.
